Perform Better Golf Stretching DVD

by Frank J. Peter

Well, the new season is about to start, and what have I done in the off-season? Nothing much, except adding a few pounds due to a lack of practice. This is why I gave Perform Better Golf Stretching DVD a shot, hoping it will get me back in shape in time for the warm wheather. The main reason why I choose this DVD over all the others available was that it is made by Mike Pedersen, arguably the most respected Golf Fitness Trainer on the web.

7 Minute Golf Stretching DVD

So, I put on my sports attire, switched on my TV and slotted the DVD into the DVD player. As I expected, Mike goes right to the 'beef'. There is a multitude of instructions, depending on which part of your body you want to work on. Here are two examples:

The first golf stretch is the Lying Leg Crossover:

  • Lie on back with legs extended.
  • Raise one leg and bend at knee to 90 degrees in knee and hip.
  • Cross that leg over extended leg, while opposite shoulder stays on ground.
  • Go until slight pull in butt and lower back.
  • Hold for 15 seconds and repeat once more.
  • Switch legs and do opposite side.

This simple golf stretch will not only make your back feel better, but it will improve your ability to make a bigger turn, with less hip movement, creating torque and energy.

The second golf stretch is the Backswing Stretch:

  • Extend left arm out in front of you (if you are a right handed golfer).
  • Take right hand and put under left wrist.
  • Pull with right hand against left wrist and make as big a turn on back swing as possible.
  • Hold for at least 15 seconds, repeat once more and do the opposite for arm for your follow thru side.

This simple golf stretch will loosen up the muscles in the back of your shoulders and your upper back (lats), for more freedom on both your backswing and follow through.

What I think

Despite the fact that my wife found it funny seeing me wiggeling on the living room floor I felt great. My only regret is that I waited too long to get back into shape, so I have to work a bit harder. While Mike says 7 minutes is enough I make it a point to spend at least half an hour with Mike and his Perform Better Golf Stretching DVD, and I can clearly feel the difference.

Mike makes it easy to follow the exercises, and he explains what they are good for and which part of my golf game will benefit. This is great encouragement. I think I'm now ready to take my exercises a bit further and will get Mike's Golf Training DVDs. There he offers tailor made exercises for novice, intermediate and advanced fitness levels.

Conclusion

Good investment! Mike Pedersen's Perform Better Golf Stretching DVD offers good exercises that, together with Mike's motivation, should get you into shape in time for the start of the golf season. At $24.95 (plus S&H) it's a good buy, and you'll learn from the best!
